A group of Kenyan veteran doctors have today launched an initiative aimed at creating additional forum for sharing accurate information about the COVID 19 pandemic and how to curb the spread of the virus.
The initiative dubbed Break the Chain is spearheaded by doctors working under the umbrella of an organisation known as Doctors for Healthy Living (DHL). The coordinator is respiratory diseases and chest medicine expert, Dr. Joseph Aluoch.
Dr. Aluoch is currently the Patron of the Kenya Association for the Prevention of Tuberculosis and Lung Diseases, and the President of the Pan-African Thoracic Society (PATS).
The doctors will use social and mainstream media to answer questions from Kenyans and give accurate information on an ongoing basis based on recommendations given by Ministry of Health on the COVID 19 virus.
The initiative is a response to recent the emergence of “experts“ purporting to provide guiding information about how people can protect themselves from getting infected with the virus.
Veteran cardiologist Dr. Robert Mathenge, who is one of the brains behind DHL said “COVID 19 is a national challenge of unprecedented proportions. As doctors with decades of experience, we must bring to bear this experience to support the national response and help to raise the public’s perception of risk from this virus.
DHL seeks to mobilise the public into changing behaviour in relation to serious public health threats. It provides a unique platform for individual doctors to play their part in contributing to promotion of public health outside their day-to-day medical practice.
